Luda recently tweeted a pic a studio session pic with no other than Timbo!! He captioned the picture with: "Back in the studio wit the man I started wit. LUDAVERSAL ALBUM COMING SOON....." Timbaland will speak on his youth and upbringing, how he got involved in music, his first big break, his depression and suicidal thoughts, his status as a superproducer, and where he sees his music going in the future. Timbo also reveals one secret that most of us never knew: He was in love with Aaliyah. Here's what he said about it:

Through this Western Union interactive program, you can create your own personalized singing telegram or collaborate with Snoop, K'naan, Sunidhi, or Timbaland in the form of a virtual duet. All you need to do is visit their website, upload a your photo, select your gender, and then pick an artist and song to sing along with the performer using lyrics streamed on the screen. She's Indian-American (Indian as in from India) and recent graduate of NYU. She apparently auditioned for Timbaland in Miami and this was the track that they recorded. No word on whether there are more tracks in the vault or if she's going to sign with MMG, but we'll let you know when we hear. You can download the track for free on her website. Remembering Aaliyah

A decade ago, the world lost an amazing singer and spirit in Aaliyah Dana Haughton. I remember waking up, going to the kitchen, and seeing my mom look a little nervous. When she saw me in the kitchen, she said: "I don't know how to tell you this...Aaliyah passed away in a plane crash today." I was shocked. I told my mother that she had to be wrong, that she confused Aaliyah with another artist, that it was just a rumor. And then I turned on the news, and saw it for myself. I didn't know what to do. I was overwhelmed with sadness. Here's someone who I never met, never talked to or anything, and yet I was so affected by her passing. And I think that speaks to the power of Aaliyah. She beautifully touched people across the world (people who had no personal interaction with her) with her voice, personality, artistry, and infectious smile. To all fans of Aaliyah and The Chronicles, feel free to share with us your favorite memory and/or song with us.

Rest In Peace, Baby Girl. We will never forget you.

Timbo on Demi Lovato Album

We've seen Timbaland's tweets about wanting to work with Demi Lovato, and the tweets by both Tim and Demi regarding their studio sessions, and now we get to hear the fruit of their labor. Yes, Timbaland will be featured on Demi's upcoming album Unbroken. Timbaland bookends the album by having the first track, "All Night Long," and the last track, "Skyscraper (Remix)," which was remixed by Tim and Wizz Dumb. Be sure to check out the songs when Demi's album drops September 20th.

If you follow Timbo on Twitter, then you know that he's currently filming the music video to "Pass at Me" (featuring Pitbull and David Guetta), reportedly the first single off of Shock Value III. While we don't have the video yet, famed Italian photographer, Raphael Mazzucco, and Interscope chairman (aka Timbaland's boss), Jimmy Iovine, are using the song to promote their upcoming coffee table book, Culo by Mazzucco, which comes out November 22nd. Basically, it's a book that showcases women's...um...butts across various regions and time. Check out the song and the Culo promo video (video is directed by Jeth Weinrich):

Timbo Mystery: Will the Real Kelly/Kelli Price Please Stand Up!

Fans and followers of The Thomas Crown Chronicles know how much we love rumors and mysteries regarding Timbaland, and today I think we have real Timbo history gem.

Have you ever listened to "Talking on the Phone" off of Tim's Bio and thought, "Damn, Kelly Price sounds a little off on this track. She doesn't really sound like herself."? Well, there might be a reason for that. Truth is, that might not be the Kelly Price that most music fans know.

Recently, I came across an article in SESAC Magazine (a magazine for and about songwriters and music publishers), that featured a story on Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, Keli Nicole Price. Peep the article here:

Much to my surprise, Keli was born and raised in Virginia Beach, where she met and became friends with Missy Elliott while she (Keli) was in high school. According to the article, Missy really enjoyed Keli's voice and songwriting skills, and soon enlisted Keli to write and record vocals for some of Missy's upcoming projects. What upcoming projects you might ask? Well, after some research, I cam across THIS interesting post on the Nicole Wray fan blog, "Nicole Wray: Billy Holliday of the Streetz," that featured a discussion on Keli Nicole Price. According to the blog, while Keli frequently recorded vocals and cowrote songs for Missy and Timbaland, she was often uncredited or wrongly credited (for example, Kelly Price). On which songs exactly? How about: Lil' Mo's "5 Minutes," "Talking on the Phone," Nicole Wray's "Make it Hot," Missy's "Hit em wit da hee" remix, "Married" off the 30 years to Life Soundtrack, AND Missy's entire Supa Dupa Fly album!! One word: UNBELIEVABLE! It's so unbelievable that most of the Timstans I spoke with didn't want to believe that this was true. How could someone not receive proper writing and/or background vocal credit for so many songs?? How could Missy (and even Timbo) not correct the situation? Why didn't anyone get sued? So many questions, and not one answer. Kelly Price or Keli Price, if either of y'all are reading this, hit up the Chronicles! Will the real Kelly Price/Keli Price please stand up!!

Ginuwine vs. Rebel vs. Jamie Foxx vs. Ray J - "Hate to Love"

Timbaland Confirms (Kind of...) What Many of us Knew about Pac's "Pain No More"

Last week, as many fans and artists celebrated what would have been Tupac Shakur's 40th birthday, Timbaland sent out an interesting tweet about his relationship to Pac:

"no more pain" all eyez on me - 2pac when the world got a taste of my vicious drum patterns back then

While the liner notes credit Devante Swing to producing "No More Pain," many Timstans speculated that Tim ghost produced the track or that Devante simply copied Tim's style. When I first saw Tim's tweet last week, I was shocked that he finally talked about Pac's "No More Pain" and his relation to it, but I quickly remembered that our own J-Boogie posted a 1998 interview with Timbaland that featured a discussion on "No More Pain." While discussing Da Basement's "Love You Down," Timbaland confirmed that Devante produced the song but quickly noted:

but that style came from me. That's my style. He put that style on Tupac's double CD too.

Here, of course, Tim was referring to "No More Pain," and so while many of us might read Tim's tweet last week as confirming that he produced the track, it's clear from the 1998 interview that Devante simply jacked Tim's style, drum pattern and all. You can peep the whole interview HERE.

Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Timbo/Nelly Furtado for "Do it"

After four years, a ton of youtube videos, and many discussions across the internet and music world on whether Timbaland "steals music," a U.S. Federal Judge in Florida recently dismissed a copyright infringement lawsuit filed against Timbaland, Nelly Furatdo, and others concerning Nelly's track "Do it." According to the Judge, Finnish recording comapny, Kernal Records Oy, failed to copyright the song "Acid Jazzed Evening" before suing Timbo, and as a result, the record company has no legal standing to sue Timbaland. You can read the full court document HERE. Well, so far Timbaland is 2-0 in the courtroom this year. We'll see if he and his lawyers can make it 3-0 with the impending lawsuit regarding "Big Pimpin'."

Ginuwine: A New Beginning

Ginuwine fans will be happy to hear that G is coming out with a reality tv show entitled "Ginuwine: A New Beginning." The show showcases G's never-ending grind of touring, creating new music, and being a father to his children and husband to his wife and former artist Sole. Ginuwine and his camp are currently shopping the show around so there's no word on which network will pick it up. Check out the trailer below:

G seems to be spending a lot of time in Miami. I wonder if he and Tim cooked something up. Guess we will have to watch and see.

In 2004, E! aired True Hollywood Story: Missy Elliott. And now, on June 29th, 2011 at 10pm EST, VH1 will launch the new season of Behind the Music with an episode on Missy Elliott!! The episode will feature interviews with Missy's longtime friends and collaborators, including Timbaland, Ciara, and Mary J. Blige. Here's the blurb from VH1 on the episode:

Found some pretty cool stuff I thought you'd be interested in.
First, the sample from Sincere and Tim's 90.Was listening to it and recognized the lyrics on the hook instantly.
It's off of the soundtrack to Shaka Zulu (mini-series) from back in the day. Watched it a couple of times when I was a kid. LOL.

Here's the sample:

Great ear, Wamya !! What's interesting about this sample is that this isn't the first time "Shaka Zulu" has been connected with Timbo. Most Timstans know that Mocha has an unreleased timbo-produced song called "Shaka Zulu." I'm not a betting man, but I'm pretty sure that song samples a track off the Shaka Zulu soundtrack.

If you're curious as to why we didn't have a Timbaland Thursday's track last week, it's because Timbaland was travelling to southern Africa for a four date concert tour with Lil' Kim, Fat Joe, Ciara, and DJ Scratch. Unfortunately, the tour hasn't been going so well for Timbo and his fans. Airplane trouble forced him to miss the concert in Harare, Zimbabwe, and the concerts in Durban and Cape Town were cancelled allegedly due to poor ticket sales. BUT, ZARFest is confirming that Timbaland and all other artists will be performing in Johannesburg on Friday. So for Timstans and TCC followers who are going to the concert in Johannesburg, we want to hear from you! Send us a review and we will post it!

P.S. There's a rumor that Timbo will try to make-up his missed Zimbabwean concert before he leaves Africa, so if the rumor is true and you will be there, email us a review!

Timbaland Thursdays: Tawanna - "See you Again"

For this week's installment of Timbaland Thursdays, Timbo shared a very heart-felt record from his vault called "See you Again" by Tawanna. Peep the track:

The song and this week's edition of Timbaland Thursdays are dedicated to Aaliyah who, as well all know, passed away almost 10 years ago (I still can't believe it). For hardcore Timstans, the link between Tawanna and Aaliyah isn't that odd because, as Timbaland shared in this interview we posted a while back, Tawanna reminded Tim a lot of Aaliyah. Here's what Tim had to say about Tawanna back in 2002:

"And you know, working with another female...I think that I can do it. I have this other female I'm about to sign, I think. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna sign her. Her name's Twanna from Atlanta, but she's not like Aaliyah. But she's makes me feel good like Aaliyah so that's kinda inspiring to have somebody like that, but it's still kinda hard. I doubt if I'll ever have that magic that I had with her, so like, I'm good with R&B because she was magic, as far as female vocalists."

As we told you here, Sin's album was slated to be the first album released off of Timbaland's first record label, Zman Records back in 2000 (yep, Timbo had his own record label before starting Beat Club), but Zman never took off and Sin's album was never released, leaving most Timstans wondering if we would ever hear Sin's "Sick" or "Drugs." Czar's Sample Post of the Week: "Big Pimpin'"

As I mentioned in my "Put you on the game" lawsuit post HERE, someone recently reopened a copyright infringement lawsuit against Jay-Z, Timbo, and a slew of others, over the "Big Pimpin'" sample. Well, a federal judge in California ruled this week that the plaintiff, Osama Ahmed Fahmy, has standing to pursue the lawsuit. If my memory is right, this is the third lawsuit filed against Jay, Tim, et al, over "Big Pimpin'." While the other two cases were dismissed, this lawsuit might have some merit. Essentially, Fahmy is claiming that while Timbaland and Jay-Z did not violate the "economic rights" through sampling "Koshara" for "Big Pimpin'", he's using Egyptian copyright law to say that they violated the "moral rights" of the original composer of the track. I haven't read the documents, but when I do, I will give an update of my thoughts on the lawsuit. Only time will tell if Timbaland will beat this case again, or if his luck will run out.

Timbaland Thursdays: Eve ft. Timbaland - "Nothing to Say"

No info on when the song was recorded, but Timbaland calls this a freestyle record, as Eve is rapping over the "Make your Better" beat. Timbaland Thursdays: "Slow Down" (Full)

P.S. Tim Stans will remember that this is not the first time that Timbo's name has been linked to a blind rapper. Back in 2001 West Coast rapper Supervision released a song entitled "Superstar" that was first thought to be produced by Timbaland. Czar's Sample Post of the Week: "Put you On the Game"

No, this isn't a sample of the week; just commentary on some recent news involving a Timbo sample.

Over the past couple of weeks, people have flooded my inbox asking me feelings on the recent news of an appellate court dismissing a lawsuit filed against Timbaland (along with The Game, Interscope, Aftermath, and G-Unit) for sampling "Baghon Mein Bahar Hai" for The Game's "Put you on the Game" without getting permission from major Indian production company, Saregama India LTD (a case we told you about here and a sample featured on my sample mix Vol. 7). I told them that I wouldn't have any thoughts on it until I read the court documents. Well, I've finally read the court's decision, and thought I'd share my feelings with the Chronicles fam.

For those who don't know, in order to win a copyright infringement lawsuit (here, it's sampling without permission), you have to do two things: 1) Prove that you are the rightful copyright holder; and 2) Show that someone or a group of people violated the copyright. So, in order to prove #1, Saregama pointed to an agreement they had with Shakti Films, where Shakti transferred copyright to Saregama for all recorded music. Now, since "Baghon Mein Bahar Hai" came from a Bollywood film produced by Shakti, Saregama told the court that, due to their agreement, Saregama holds the copyright. But, as the court documents reveal, this agreement was to only last between January 1967 to January 1969. Since "Baghon Mein Bahar Hai" came out in September of 1969, this was after the agreement. Consequently, Saregama isn't the rightful copyright holder of "Baghon Mein Bahar Hai," and cannot file a lawsuit against Timbaland. Check the summary of the court's decision here:

The funny part to me is that because Saregama couldn't prove #1, the court didn't even have to rule on #2, which is whether Tim actually sampled the "Baghon Mein Bahar Hai."

So what does all this mean? Well, I asked a good friend of mine, Wayne Marshall, who's also a DJ, music scholar, and constantly gets called to court as an expert on music and copyright (check out his blog, http://wayneandwax.com/). Here's what he said:

Funny to see Saregama overreach like this. That may mean we see a lot less litigation of this sort, since they're the major major, though it depends on how commonplace a limited agreement like this was. Was it really "unique"? If so, I wonder why.

To me, this is the whole result of this case: it leaves more questions than answers. Sure, because Tim won against a major Indian production company, this could mean that he can go back to sampling Bollywood tracks without worrying about a lawsuit, but let's be real here. The case was dismissed only because of this limited agreement between Saregama and Shakti Films, an agreement that could have hurt Tim's bank account if "Baghon Mein Bahar Hai" came out in January of 1969 instead of September 1969. If these limited agreements were common, then Tim might have more wiggle room to sample, but if this was just a one-time thing, then it will still be difficult for Tim to freely sample Bollywood. Also, Shakti Films, if it still exists and if it doesn't whoever owns the rights to the estate, can still sue Timbaland. The court ruled in favor of Timbaland because the wrong party sued. Someone can definitely refile as the rightful copyright owner, and this wouldn't be anything new to Tim since someone claiming to own the rights to "Koshara" recently reopened the "Big Pimpin'" copyright infringement lawsuit against Timbaland. Only time will tell what happens next, but for now, Tim must be feeling pretty good.

Ever wonder how some of your favorite artists got their start or even linked up with Timbaland? Well, check out these three (somewhat) recent interviews with Avery Storm, Kiley Dean, and Ryan Tedder of One Republic.

While most people know the R&B singer Avery Storm from his features on hit songs like Notorious B.I.G.'s "Nasty Girl" (off the Biggie Duets album) and Rick Ross' "Here I Am," hardcore Timstans will remember him as being part of the Beat Club artist roster under the name The Storm. Check out this interview Avery Storm did with YouKnowIGotSoul on how he originally meet Tim and signed with Beat Club and what he's up to now:

What's up Timstans?

It's Friday, and you know that means another installment of Czar's Sample of the Week. Over the past two months, I've re-released each one of my Timbaland sample mixes, and this week we reach Volume 8, my last and final mix. Every once in a while, people email me asking why I don't do Timbaland mixes any more, and I usually give them two answers First, I'm just plain tired lol. While I definitely enjoy doing the mixing, the time and effort I put in to digging for samples, choosing which ones to feature, and then doing the mix takes a tole. So when I did Vol. 7, I just decided that I'd do one more and really be done with it. The second reason is a bit funny. I have a list of Timbaland samples that I'd die to find, and I told myself that if I found one of them, I'd stop doing the mixes. It so happened that as I was gathering samples for Volume 8, I found the sample to Jay-Z's "Paper Chase" and Missy's "Lick Shots," and those were two of the top samples I'd been searching for.

Now, when you all hear Volume 8, you will notice that it's longer and that I'm playing the Timbaland songs as well the samples longer than usual. The mix is longer because I wanted to exhaust my sample vault (basically put everything in there), and the samples/track are played longer because I wanted to do it my way; I love these songs and samples so I just wanted to ride out to them during the mix.

So let's get right to it. Here's Czar's Timbaland Sample Mix Volume 8: The Final Chapter (released in 2008):

Now, I spent all week trying to figure out which sample from Volume 9 to drop today, and I thought it would make sense that because Vol. 8 was the last mix, I would feature the last sample on Volume 9. So here it is:

Hey Timstans!!

Sorry I'm late with today's installment, but let's get right into it. We're nearing the close of this special edition of Czar's Sample of the Week, where each week, I re-release one of my eight Timbaland sample mixes alongside a sample from the unreleased Volume 9. This week, I'm re-releasing Volume 7, which is tied with Volume 6 for my favorite Timbo sample mix. While I released Volume 7 in 2006, a year after Volume 6, I just felt like I was in the same head space when I did Vol. 7. I just felt like I was making Vol. 6 pt. 2 Well, without further ado, here's Volume 7 (people with the original Vol. 7 will notice that I removed the sample to "When N****s Get to Poppin" b/c, as we reported here, it's produced by Brian Kidd):

Now, one of my favorite Timbo tracks is Tank's "I Love Them Girls Pt. 2," and I featured an interpolation of the song on Vol. 6 and even posted one of the samples for The Chronicles Anniversary. Check (it's the second sample):

Now, what I love to do, and you can hear it in my mixes, I try to find as many samples as possible in one Timbaland track (the drums and guitar in Fabolous' "Right now, later on" or the guitar and baby giggle in Aaliyah's "Are you that Somebody"). And so I was geeked when I peeped another sample in "I Love Them Girls Pt. 2," and I hope y'all will be as geeked as I was. Peep:

R.I.P Nate Dogg

Nathaniel D. Hale, known in the music industry as Nate Dogg, died Tuesday, his family announced. The rap star, born and reared in Long Beach, Calif. was 41. Cause of death is not known. However, Hale had suffered two strokes, one in 2007 and another in 2008.

Nate and Timbaland worked together a few times with Ms. Jade on "Dead Wrong" as well as the smooth, laid back "Gott Damn Shame":

The track that so many of us Timbo stans have been after over the years, however, is the unreleased track "Born To Mac" from Nate's self titled album. Nate always brought that amazing hook but none better in my opinion than on Dre's "Xxplosive."

I know it's not Friday, but I'm doing an early edition of Czar's Timbo Sample of the Week because...IT'S TIMBALAND'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Tim!!!

I'm excited that his bday happens to fall on a moment when I'm re-releasing one-half of my favorite Timbo sample mix (Vol. 6 is tied with Vol. 7 lol). I originally dropped this mix in September of 2005, and I love this mix so much because it features a lot of my favorite Timbo tracks/samples. Here it is (for those who have the original Vol. 6, you will notice that I took out the "Hey Now (Mean Muggin')" sample. After a few years of thinking about it, I think I got the sample wrong, so I cut it on this re-release):

Now, about two years ago, someone sent me an email informing me that there might be a different song that Tim sampled for the drums on "Hola Hovito" other than the one I featured on Vol. 6, and so I decided to post it. Peep:

Czar's Sample of the Week

What's up Timstans?
Well it's Friday, and we all know that Friday means another installment of Czar's Timbo Sample of the Week. This week, we're going to do something a little special.

As I told everyone almost a month ago, each week I'm re-releasing one of my eight Timbo sample mixes along with one sample from my unreleased Volume 9. With that, here's Volume 5 (for those with the original Vol. 5, you'll notice that I cut out Kiley's "So Caught Up," because, as we all know now, Tim didn't produce that track):

Now, I usually refer to Vol. 5 as "Volume 4 pt. 2." Volume 5 came a couple of months after I released Vol. 4, and it actually featured samples that I included in the original Vol. 4, but simply cut. Part of the reason why I cut those samples out had to do with the fact that I thought Vol. 4 was too long with them in there. You'll notice that I end with Brandy's "Should I Go" on Volume 5, and that has to do with the fact that I thought about stopping the whole Timbaland sample mix thing. So after people enjoyed Vol. 4, I decided to feature all the left over samples as a way of clearing out my vault, and sharing the rest of the samples with everyone.

Before I get to a sample from Volume 9, I want to share something special about yesterday's Timbaland Thursday's track "Whenever You Like." Now, upon first listen to the track, will say that Timbo interpolated T.I.'s hit 2006 track "What you Know."

Annnnnndddddd, you'd be somewhat correct. While most of us know the T.I. song, "What you Know" is also a product of interpolation. Peep this:

While the original poster of this youtube video nicely points out that DJ Toomp (the producer of "What you Know") either interpolated The Impressions 1968 record "Gone Away" or the 1970 Roberta Flack version, s/he forgot to mention that the common denominator in both records is the amazing singer-songwriter-producer Donny Hathaway (if you don't know his music, you need to get to know his music asap!). Donny Hathaway features the same melody in his song "I Believe to My Soul" (1:40 and 2:45) off his classic and inspiring record Everything is Everything (get that album NOW!) Check the track:

What's up Timstans?
It's that time again for Czar's Sample of the Week. This week I'm posting Volume 3 of my Timbaland Sample Mixes. I posted this on the old Beat Club forum (and other message boards/forums) back in 2004. What I really enjoyed about this mix was that I'd almost used up all my Timbo samples in my vault, so I had to go back to digging for more Timbo samples to create a full mix. What I also love about this mix, and I've said this before, I love Kiley Dean and her unreleased album Simple Girl, so I was so happy to feature a few samples from that classic album. So here's Volume 3:

Now, most of the classic followers of The Chronicles will remember that I posted this sample back in 2009 for the New Year's Eve installment of Czar's Sample of the Week, and might feel a little cheated that I didn't post a new sample off Volume 9...so, here's another sample (or interpolation rather) from Vol. 9:

And you know what? Since I was late this week, I'm going to post another interpolation that was actually originally slated to be on Volume 3, but I had hesitations on whether or not this was actually an interpolation, so I cut it from the mix. With each new mix, I put this interpolation in there, and then took it out at the last minute. So, what I want to do is kick it out to the followers/fans of The Chronicles and hear what you have to say about this (giving y'all two different mixes of it to maybe hear it better):

What's up Timstans?

It's Friday, and for the old school followers of The Chronicles, Fridays meant Czar's Timbo Sample of the Week--this Friday is no exception. Each week, I'm going to re-release one of my past eight Timbaland sample mixes along with samples from my unreleased Vol. 9. And since last week was Redman2k3's mix and my Vol. 1 mix, that means this week is all about Vol. 2. Peep:

This mix also came out in 2003. People on the Beat Club forum were really feeling my mix and Redman2k3's mix, so I decided to put together some other samples that I didn't put on vol. 1 and call it vol. 2 (I had no idea back then that I was going to do eight volumes lol). When I listen to the mix again, two things stick out in my mind: 1)This second volume is when I really cared about having a great intro sample that sounded like an introduction into something and would set the whole project up (this would become something that I wanted to do with all my mixes) 2)Having "Big Pimpin'" play longer than it probably should. I did this because I, like a lot of people, love that song and I just wanted to ride out to it lol (I wouldn't do that with another mix until my last). Those who already have Vol. 2 will notice a slight difference: I cut out the samples to The Relativz's "Maria" and Playa's "Gravy Train" because, as we posted here and here on the Chronicles, they aren't Timbaland productions.

What's up Tim Stans?

So Boogie came up with a great idea the other day, and has asked me to re-release one of my eight timbo sample mixes every week and give a little history about each mix. As an added bonus (and this might surprise Boogie), I'm going to post a sample from the unreleased vol. 9 sample mix. So let's get straight to it...

It was the summer of 2003, Kiley Dean's classic (in my opinion) album, Simple Girl, leaked as well as a couple of tracks from Brandy's Afrodisiac album. This was wayyyyy before Thomas Crown Chronicles (there was Timbaland Heaven tho...shout out to Jess! You pioneered this Timbo blog ish!!), so we relied on new Timbo songs and news via members of the Beat Club forum/message board (yes, Beat Club still existed; no MMG yet). Anyway, one day someone posted the sample to Petey Pablo's "Raise Up," and the whole forum was buzzing about and posting Timbaland samples. Soon after, one of the forum members, Redman2k3, posted the first ever Timbaland sample mix (shout out to Redman2k3!!) Check it:

After Redman2k3 released his sample mix, I was sitting on some Timbaland samples (shout out to Malis for helping me with some!), but I didn't know what to do with them. I wasn't an up-and-coming/aspiring producer like Redman2k3, but I wanted to post something. So I downloaded this old, cheap software and mixed the Timbaland beat with the original sample as best I could. The result was the first of 8 Timbaland sample mixes over six years (the later mixes are smoother lol) Peep:

Those of you who already have Vol. 1 will notice that I deleted two samples: "Tell me ya wit it" and "big spender." I deleted the former because I featured the full sample on a later mix, and I got rid of the latter because it's obviously not a Timbaland production.

Now, I couldn't decide on which Timbo sample from Vol. 9 to post, so I thought I'd do two (two sample mixes and two samples makes sense, right?). Enjoy!

What's up Tim stans?

You know, the latest Timbaland Thursday's release just got me so energetic. Of course, like most Tim stans, I already had the track, but I love "I'm a real n***a"/"Lil' Apartment" so much and that song brings back so many Chronicle memories that I decided to do a little something for y'all. Since Tim went into his vault and released a track from a shelved music project, I thought I'd also into my vault and share a sample from one of my shelved projects. Most of y'all remember a couple of years ago, I said that Czar's Timbaland Sample Mix Vol. 8 (for those who don't have the sample mix) was going to be my last timbo sample mix, and I really meant it. Well...about a year ago, I got an itch and actually did a mix on the fly. After listening to it, I thought about releasing it, but decided to keep my word. Now, I doubt I'll ever drop the entire mix, but here's one song that was on it. Enjoy!!

Way Back When: "Lil' Apartment"/ "I'm a Real N***a"

Tim decided to go into his vault for this week's Timbaland Thursdays and released Lil' Apartmet. Most Timbo stans will recognize the song (and probably have it on their playlist) as "I'm a real n***a," a track that leaked in full almost three years ago and was slated for the indefinitely-shelved 6'2, Attitude, and Timbaland group album (they recorded over 60 songs for that album! Tim, you need to release that entire album for the next Timbaland Thursdays). Now, even though the track leaked in 2008, the real geeky Tim stans will remember that we first caught a glimpse of this record back in the spring of 2006 when a random video clip (seemingly recorded by Brian Byrd) of Tim, Hannon, Jimmy D, pre-American Idol contestant Chris Richardson (who recorded a song with Sebastian), King Logan, and (I think?) Danja listening to the track at Thomas Crown Studios. Peep it:

I played this video so many times that I memorized Tim's mannerisms to the song, and still do them when I listen to 6'2's verse lol.

Shock Value III Preview: Missy Elliott F/ Sebastian "Warped"

Now this is the kind of track I'd want on a Shock Value album. It's an updated Tim sound but still keeping that the core Timbo craziness. This track alone beats nearly every track on SVII for uniqueness alone. Enjoy "Warped"

Missy Elliott "Take Ur Clothes Off" -Timbaland Thursdays

With Missy's flow definitely sounds like a track from the Under Construction days but with the screwed part of the chorus it's hard to say. Not a big fan of the track but still dope to hear Missy and Timbo together again!

Even as big of a Candice Nelson fan as I am, I didn't know this track as entirely her rather I thought she just had backgrounds and adlibs. However, after listening to it a few times, indeed it's the one and only Candice. Now people may think this is during the Clutch era, which are no more in case you didn't know, but actually this track is pre-Clutch and written by both Candice and yep you guessed it Walter Milsap. Who was it meant for? No word on that yet but regardless Candice shows her vocals SKILLS with the demo for "Far Away":

Twista "Don't Blow My High" -Timbaland Vault

Classic Timbaland in every way and without questions my favorite beat released in 2010. Twista and Timbaland are magic and it's obvious why Timbo was the first person to sign Twista way back when. No one flips a sample like Timbo The King!

Hear those sounds? Can we say M.I.A sessions? Yep!

D.O.E "The Set Up" -Timbaland Vault

This sounds like one of John Doe's first round of songs as it fits that heavy piano, slower set of beats that Timbo made for him back then. But Danja joins Timbo on production which would place the beat a little later. Regardless this is classic Timbaland & D.O.E, a smooth, laid back beat where D.O.E can show off his incredible lyrical skills. Check it:

I can still remember the day I was sent these M.I.A/Timbo studio sessions and we debuted them here on The Chronicles. There was all that hype about Tim and M.I.A in the studio and now we actually had footage. Nothing got me more hyped though then when Timbo played this now famous beat and the whole studio started buggin' out. Seems Missy liked the beat too by the sound of it:

Let's just be honest: Timbaland's music sucks. Not the last album, not even the last year but for a long time now (I'd argue since Future Sex / Love Sounds). Now you may disagree with me, you probably will but there's no denying that Timbaland isn't making that incredible, I've-never-heard-that-before kind of music but rather the commercial, pop music that we hear everyday. He even admits it. So why has Tim's music been suffering you ask? It's easy:

He's bored.

Let's face facts: almost every Timbaland banger that's been out in the last 5 years was made over 5 years ago ("Laff At Em", "Hello", every Timbaland Thursday track we'll ever hear). What artists are working with Timbaland that are pushing the envelope right now, that aren't unsigned? Nicki Minja? What kind of track is Timbo really gonna make for Demi Lovato? A "Are You That Somebody" kind of track or Ginuwine "Get Involved" kind of track? We all heard The Jonas Brother's "Tonight" (Remix) right? Is Michelle Branch really gonna push your creativity? Who's gonna remember "Gettaway" in 10 years, shit next year?! Now pull out Ginuwine's "I'll Do Anything/I'm Sorry" (over 15 years old kids!).

My point is this: Timbaland step up your production game. Is this really the best you have to offer? Is this how you want to retire? With Demi Lovato, Jonas Bothers, Daughty, Miley Cyrus beats you can do in your sleep as your legacy? Timmy man you're my favorite producer in the world, start acting like it.

American Idol Season 10 with Assistance by Timbaland

BIG NEWS from American Idol for Season 10 today. Not only do we get 2 new judges, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Jennifer Lopez of Obscurity; not only do we get Jimmy Iovine chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records acting as an in-house mentor to contestants; but Jimmy will be getting some assistance from one Polow Da Don and Timbaland-please-no-more-dance-songs Mosley!

"We're going to try every week to bring the artist along and really give them some input," Iovine said. "Nigel [Lythgoe] has been coaching me on how to do that in the course of the show. Timbaland and Polow [Da Don] are here to help; every week we're going to have the best producers in the world helping these artists. Contestants are going to have to show improvement every week."

"We are no longer going to get the country singer to sing rock," Lythgoe said. "We-and Jimmy-going to get them to stay in the genre they belong." The music choices will vary more by decade this year, he said, as opposed to changing up themes entirely."

Get To Know Nisan Stewart

As we've always done at The Chronicles, we not only want everyone to get their Timbo fix but to also get an education along with it. With that said you all know Nisan right? Yes the producer from Tweet's Southern Hummingbird but Nisan is not only much more than that but he's been around a lot longer than you think. How far back you ask? 2005? 2002? How about 1998 back when Timbaland was looking to put together for a TV spot when he found the incredible drummer at church and immediately knew the very talented Mr. Stewart had to be a part of the Timmy family. From Missy Elliott to Nelly Furtado, Aaliyah to Tweet, Nisan has been a long time collaborator with Timbo and the crew.

Check out this informative article on Nisan and how he came to become a local church drummer to touring the world with the best musicians in the world.

It's definitely better to go in with Missy Elliot. A lot of times we'll go in - I do a lot of production for her stuff and with other stuff, but to use her as an example we'll go in and do a bunch of tracks. Just be in the studio, just vibe out. Sometimes if I'm at home, like today I hot track and I'm gonna send it off to her. She's over in Scotland right now."

"I work down in Miami a lot. I work in Miami mostly. This year I'll spend most of the year in Miami. A lot of times it might be in New York. In the music industry they record in shifts like cause' it was kind of slow out here in L.A. for a minute compared to what was going on in Miami. Everybody was down there in Miami working at the Hit Factory. When we were down there a lot of people were there. From Jazz writers - to the Neptunes would be in one room me and Missy would be in one room, Puff Daddy would have a room and Timbaland would be in another room and Enrique Eglesias would be in there cuttin' tracks. I just like to have my own stuff so that's why I've got my own studio so I can do my own thing."
